Community: Thompson This coming weekend members of the THINK SALMON team will be following the Adams River Sockeye salmon up the Fraser River, from the saltwater of the Strait of Georgia, past the industrial workings, log booms, and freighter berths of Richmond, Surrey, and New Westminster, up past the major stems of the Pitt, Alouette, Stave, and Harrison Rivers, through the rushing whitewater of Hell’s Gate and the Fraser Canyon, north to the great junction of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers, a confluence of watersheds that drains a quarter of the area of BC, then west, up, past logged slopes, fields of livestock, ginseng plants and apple, peach, and cherry orchards to the wider valleys and parched lands of the interior, and, finally, to the Adams River. There we’ll be observing and participating in the 2006 Salute to the Sockeye opening ceremonies. We’re proud to join the Adams River Salmon Society in opening the 2006 Salute and we look forward to meeting all kinds of folks who are thinking salmon. PHOTO: Adams River Salmon Society While at the Adams River the THINK SALMON team will be collecting stories, taking photos, shooting video, and generally taking it all in. If you see us, please come by and say hi! We’ll be the ones with the yellow fish logo. We’ll have THINK SALMON t-shirts and hats that look pretty spiffy. In keeping with our efforts at the Adams River, we’re launching this special feature blog, the Adams River 2006 blog. We’ll be posting the stories, videos, and photos we collect here and all around the THINK SALMON website over the next month, for the duration of the Adams River Salute to the Sockeye. So please join us. Come up to the Adams River and see one of the marvels of the natural world. Send us your photos. Contact us with your questions or story requests. We want to do our best to celebrate the incredible Adams Sockeye salmon return of 2006. Posted by James Sherrett on 9/29/06
