Kokanee Salmon Festival

In order to ensure long term health of fish populations and to assist in fisheries recovery, our streams must be protected and enhanced. This annual event provides the community with an opportunity to foster stewardship for fish and watershed health.

For 2008, the Kokanee Salmon Festival will display, through various exhibitors, the historical, present and future uses of our surrounding watershed. Booths for the 2008 festival should reflect a strong environmental message, with an interactive, family-orientated theme. Booths should display how your organization or business protects, participates in and/or, enhances our water resources or the environment surrounding them. Last year’s event was attended by approximately 4000 people, who in addition too exploring the “fishy” booths displayed along the spawning channel, also relaxed with local artists and musicians. The festival will again feature a traditional Okanagan/Syilx Salmon Feast and Entertainment.

Returning for 2008, Stream of Dreams staff will be onsite, providing watershed education and an opportunity to paint a salmon which will be incorporated into Mission Creek’s very own Stream of Dreams mural!
