Project Summary

The Riversheds Forum offers participants an opportunity to share information about their rivershed activities. They have up to 10 minutes to tell their “Rivershed Story”. They are asked to provide a presentation about their rivershed through various creative media and provide highlights of their group’s progress since last year.  This event helps build stewardship capacity throughout the Basin and focuses on a different theme annually.

The theme for 2008 is “Sustainability From a First Nations Perspective” and will be held in Fraser Lake and Francois Lake, BC in the Nechako Region.

The Forum aims to build capacity among stewardship and conservation groups in the Basin by helping them make connections where collaboration opportunities arise and to provide participants with a snapshot of other related sustainability activities underway within the Basin. On the agenda are: Rivershed Stories, Field Trip, Networking, Strategy Session, Keynote Speakers/Presentations & Working Groups and Cultural Recognition opportunities.

Final Results

The Riversheds Forum will produce
Ř Opportunities for Fraser River Basin stewards to share, learn and strategize together and address Basin-wide initiatives and issues.
Ř A Riversheds Forum Final Report which will be distributed to all participants and partners in the Basin.
Ř A Riversheds Forum DVD which will be distributed to participants (will be made available to funders and the public through http://www.rivershed.com).
Ř A DVD that will market future Forums and to share the proceedings with partners within the Fraser River Basin that are not able to attend.

This Forum benefits Fraser River Basin communities by building capacity among stewardship groups, schools, First Nations and local governments with respect the delivery of conservation, education and stewardship initiatives and activities. Participants are provided with opportunities to discuss details of their current work, issues, etc., through their “Rivershed Story”. Keynote and guest speakers are utilized to provide research, insight and knowledge on current issues and help develop strategies and next steps to support salmon and water management in the Fraser River Basin.
