Location: Fraser River Basin (Mount Robson to Vancouver) Project Summary
The purpose of the SLLP is to develop both skills for sustainable living and leadership development through through theory-based and experiential-based curriculum. Theory-based curriculum includes: voluntary simplicity, deep ecology and related topics, discovering a sense of place and choices for sustainable living. Experiential-based curriculum includes: outdoor skills, personal development, group development, environmental understanding, environmental investigation and commitment to action. Learning objectives will be met by participating in the group experience, facilitated discussions, and through carefully orcehstrateed initative and team building activities. Debriefing of group activities and daily group experiences will be used to promote open communication, foster group development and aid in conflict resolution. The underlying philosophy of the SLLP is to be a leader in sustainable living and build self-reliant communities along the Fraser River. The SLLP believes strongly in the idea of connecting the program and participants with Fraser River communities. By developing relationships with these communities, participants develop a greater appreciation and sense of place within the Fraser River Basin. These relationships are instrumental in building a network of community organizations working toward sustainable living within the Fraser River Basin.
