The First Nations Leadership Council will be hosting a province-wide Fisheries Council Forum with the purpose of developing a collective understanding of, and support for, a province-wide representative BC First Nations Fishery Council. First Nations political and technical organizations in British Columbia have long been advocating on the part of their constituents on fisheries-related issues. Until quite recently, these organizations did not regularly work together in a collaborative fashion, which reduced the collective political power of First Nations and produced disjointed approaches to fisheries issues. The creation of a BC First Nations Fishery Council will allow First Nation groups to address local, regional and national fisheries related issues with a unified approach.
The Fisheries Council Forum hopes to develop the BC First Nations Fishery Council by the summer of 2007. This Council will be responsible for:

1. Can someone tell me how they are managing sockeye salmon habitat on Quesnel Lake, North Arm and the Mitchell and Penfold Rivers? I am aware of TFL 52 of West Fraser, who monitors their activities that impact salmonid species. 2. Who monitors effluent from Mt Polley Mine into Quesnel Lake & Quesnel River?
