Project Summary

The Stream of Dreams Murals Society’s 2007 project will connect a minimum of 4,000 Fraser Basin residents with their local watershed and its place in the larger Fraser Basin through delivery of the Stream of Dreams watershed education and community art program at a minimum of 17 school and community events.

This educational program will focus on improving water quality for salmon and other aquatic life in our streams, rivers and oceans by building awareness of people’s connection to fish habitat through our storm and sanitary sewer drainage systems and by encouraging behavior changes to reduce water use and protect water quality. Each sub-project will also leave an art legacy, composed of hundreds of individually painted salmon beautifully displayed on a local chain-link fence to remind area residents of the importance of salmon and protecting their habitat.

This project will address the habitat issue of water quality, particularly pollution in waterways through storm and sanitary sewage systems. Many people are still unaware that what goes down drains ends up in fish habitat. The Stream of Dreams message will be presented primarily to elementary school students and teachers, and the students are encouraged to take the message home to their families and neighbours to help others understand the connections between our streets, homes and fish habitat.
