Project Summary

Nicola Tribal Association will be conducting a detailed fish and fish habitat overview assessment in the Nicola River, one of the 5 most threatened rivers in BC, to identify priority areas for habitat restoration. Excessive bank erosion and lateral channel migration in the Nicola River lead to lower fresh water survival of salmonids and the quality of their rearing habitat. A strategy for the restoration of the Nicola River mainstem channel and riparian zones is necessary to identify, prioritize and coordinate the application of protection measures and restoration treatments.

Ultimately, this restoration project will guide ongoing rehabilitation and salmon/steelhead management activities within the watershed and will lead to increases in survival and production during the freshwater life history phases of all salmonids.
