Project Summary

In 2006, the Fraser Valley Regional Watersheds Coalition (FVRWC) restored 250 squared meters of spawning habitat in Kawakawa Creek Spawning Channel, and replaced a decaying boardwalk, constructed two new bridges, built a new trail, and installed four interpretative signs along the trail.

The habitat enhancement aspect of the project will produce an additional 65,000 coho, chum and pink fry annually, and will benefit coho, steelhead and cutthroat populations, as Kawakawa Creek is an important producer of salmon. The trail and signs will be used by an estimated 15,000-20,000 park visitors and hundreds of school children each year, thus creating awareness of salmon and fish habitat among visitors.
