Nicola Watershed Community Round Table will be developing the Nicola Water Use Management Plan, a community-driven planning process to develop a water use management plan for the Nicola watershed. The overall purpose of the plan is to develop processes and mechanisms for addressing outstanding water related issues, including inadequate fish flows for salmon, which the present water management regime is not able to resolve to the satisfaction of all stakeholders and levels of government.
Participation in the planning process will be broad, with representation from all levels of government and from a broad range of interests and stakeholders including ranchers, industry and business, non-profit organizations, and individuals. The plan will include:
The Nicola Water Use Management Plan will provide many benefits to both salmon and individuals living in the Nicola Watershed. By creating a fish-aware community, the water supply in the region will be managed more efficiently and effectively, leading to an adequate supply of water and sustainable water quality for fish. Further benefits include improved information and tools for fisheries management. |
