Project Summary

The Nicola Watershed Community Round Table (NWCRT) will be continuing the Nicola Water Use Management Plan (WUMP) planning process, which has been underway for two years, and is community-driven with participation of First Nations, government, interest groups and a cross section of the residents of the communities of the Nicola watershed.  The goal of this project is to develop a water management plan that provides a sustainable supply of water that ensures a balance of social, economic, traditional and ecological values. The Nicola WUMP process will lead to the development of a water management plan that provides all water users with a safe, reliable and sustainable supply of water without compromising salmon habitat.

The Nicola WUMP planning process consists of plan initiation, plan development, evaluation and approval, and implementation and monitoring. 2007 will mark the third year of the planning process. The NWCRT will be conducting a Present and Future Water Demand Study and the first phases of the Additional Storage Sites study, as well as other activities that will provide ongoing support for the planning process.
