Location: Thompson, Merritt, BC Project Summary
The Nicola Watershed Community Round Table initiated a surface and groundwater supply and interaction study to determine the current and future supply of water in the Nicola watershed through surface and groundwater sources. The study was conducted in three phases, with the first phase consisting of a review of existing water supply data, and identifying knowledge gaps in the data. The second phase saw the development of a conceptual water supply model for various sub-basins in the Nicola watershed, and the final phase involved data collection and field work to confirm the degree of surface water/groundwater interactions, groundwater recharge rates, and to confirm the conceptual model developed in phase two. This important project was selected as a high-profile project, as it contributes to the Nicola WUMP process, which is a good example of a community-driven process dealing with the complexities for water use management planning. |
