Project Summary

Salmon River Watershed Society (SRWR) completed streambank and riparian restoration at over 125 sites with a high level of collaboration with local landowners and other funders.

SRWR has been granted access to significant cost-share funds for streambank/riparian restoration through a special one year pilot project to plan and implement equivalent farm plans at a watershed a scale in the Salmon River. This project is being sponsored directly by the Environmental Farm Program and builds on a National WEBs demonstration project through Agriculture Canada that has been ongoing in the Salmon River Watershed for three years.

This unique pilot project is the first of its kind in BC and represents the best opportunity the SRWR has ever experienced to advance its long term goal of watershed wide streambank/riparian restoration. Because much of the project planning is already done or sponsored, most of the FBI funding will go directly to the ground for onsite project construction costs. This habitat rehabilitation project will directly benefit salmonids, including habitat improvement for Coho, Chinook and Sockeye, as well as Rainbow Trout.
