Final Results
Streamkeepers Training
* Students from Westsyde Seconday were provided with Streamkeepers training, along with a cultural and careers component at the McQueen Lake Environmental Education Centre
Worked with the City of Kamloops on environmental projects, training, and educational materials
* Acquired water treatment and wastewater model. Presented classroom sessions at the Science School Open House and for teachers at the Professional Development Day
* Fabricated a portable storm drain cover to complement both the storm drain marking program and the water treatment model. (Younger students are often not sure what storm drains are.)
Partnered with the BIG Little Science Centre on materials and programming related to salmon.
* Installed a marine tank at the Centre, and provided a travelling marine tank and materials for classroom visits out of the school.
* Put in wetlands at two schools (Bert Edwards and David Thompson) and materials developed to help visitors or teachers teach about wetlands.
* Developed resources and materials for an aquatic insect kit modeled after the Streamkeepers Aquatic Insect module and the McQueen Lake Environmental Education Centre’s pond kit.
* Developed teaching material to address habitat issues for salmon in the Interior of BC. An origami product names and describes some of the habitat loss issues. The Stream Care booklet also has lessons attached that promote good practises when around streams. (available on Salmonid Website under Resources)
* Participated in the weekend Community Open House events (Oct.’07 and Feb.’08), where up to 800 people visited the Science Centre. The native and marine tanks were featured.
