Location: Fraser Valley, Pitt Meadows, BC Project Summary
British Columbia Conservation Foundation (BCCF) conducted an evaluation of Upper Pitt River in an effort to develop and expand partnerships with local interest groups, analyze fish habitat, and develop a plan to improve fish habitat through watershed restoration. In February of 2007 an open discussion was held regarding watershed needs and potential habitat restoration opportunities on the Upper Pitt River, with representatives from a local business, First Nations, government, non-governmental organizations, and non-profit organizations in attendance. The group recommended the placement of large woody debris in Blue Creek, maintenance of side channels in hatchery creeks, reconnection of Upper Pitt River to Red Slough, and reconnection of Forestry Creek to its remnant side channel. On a site visit to the Upper Pitt watershed in March 2007, it was decided that the implementation of the Red Slough/Upper Pitt River water addition and Blue Creek restoration projects would be implemented in the summer of 2007. |
