What is the Pacific Salmon Commission?

Sockeye

The Pacific Salmon Commission's goals are conservation, management and optimum production of Pacific Salmon. This body implements the Pacific Salmon Treaty, struck in 1985 by the US and Canada. The Treaty is a means for both countries to achieve long-term goals for the benefit of Pacific Salmon stocks that pass through Canadian waters bound for US rivers and vice versa. The Commission is composed of delegates appointed by the Canadian and US governments and represents the interests of commercial and recreational fisheries, environmental organizations, Canadian First Nations and federal, provincial, state, and U.S. tribal governments. One function of the body is to provide regulatory advice and recommendations to both countries regarding the management of Fraser River sockeye and pink salmon. Pre-season and in-season snapshots are offered in the form of news releases and regulatory announcements. See PSC's website for the most up to date announcements about the Fraser River sockeye and pink salmon fisheries.

I was first told back in the 70’s that there would be a salmon collapse by an elder in my community. Back the the sockey could not be be counted while jumping in our river. However this elder said in early of the next 25 years the salmon would be just about gone.

So help our salmon in restore them.

River’s Inlet follows under that Conservation, Management and Optimum Production of Pacific Salmon. Three River’s should be priorties. The Skeena River, River’s Inlet, Frazer River. Also the Management of The other two River are forgotten. They supplied the economy of BC, CA, and First Nation and Non First Nation. DFO said River’s Inlet woould be a Priority. must be a ghost walk again. You are our connection to them.

The Salmon Treaty offers each country the opportunity to begin new enhancement programs or expand existing operations with confidence that the benefits of those activities will not be lost to uncontrolled intercepting fisheries.

The farmed salmon MUST be done on land. To mix wild and farmed together is DOOM for the wild fish.

I realize the cost is higher but the farmed salmon never paid for land the way beef farmers or chicken farmers have too . I hope we all get the message before its too late. SOS

What salmon farming does do is to help keep the over harvesting of the wild salmon in check.
