Gravel mining will hurt salmon, critics say

The Vancouver Sun reports on a gravel mining operation to launch this month that critics fear will destroy salmon spawning beds. The B.C. government claims the operation will reduce the risk of flood. According to David Suzuki Foundation and the Fraser Valley Salmon Society, however, the site for this operation offers no flood protection and is just a low-cost source of gravel.

Ms Moser, could you reconcile the society’s position on The Great Fraser Gravel Grab and your personal postion against it with this column and the PSF’s position in favour of project funding to FN’s who beneffited financially from this destruction of spawning habitat in 8 locations within the last 3 years
