How to Choose Your Salmon (and Fish) at the Supermarket

Are you confused about what kind of fish to buy at the supermarket? Not just salmon, but all fish.

Treehugger has a handy little video on how to choose your fish at the supermarket that’s worth checking out.

Highlights include:

  • Discovering how the salmofan is used for colouring farmed salmon;
  • Finding out how to make reference to country-of-origin labels (sadly, only applicable in some US locations);
  • Sorting out the fish with the potential for mercury accumulation.

Fish is a great source of lean protein and it’s delicious too.

Through the months of August, September, and October, with salmon returning to their native rivers to spawn, people in the Pacific Northwest have the best salmon-eating opportunities of the entire year.

Get out there and find some fresh salmon!
