Students Welcome Back the Salmon in Port Coquitlam

Community: Fraser Valley

The article, entitled “A blanket and some buttons part of school salmon project,” focuses on Lincoln elementary school in Port Coquitlam, where the kids will be welcoming back the salmon with events that remember the traditions of First Nations peoples.

The students worked with artist Dan Brown on a button blanket that features stylized designs of salmon, salmon eggs, and a hand. Students took turns hand-stitching the blanket and sewing on 1,000 buttons.
