Simon’s Story—A Salmon Shadow Puppet Show

You will need:

Construction paper in various colors

Masking tape

Wooden skewers (popsicle sticks are too short)

Light piece of fabric (white sheet will do)

Ribbon/stars/items to decorate the theatre

Box or 3 panels to drape sheet in front (see diagram)

2 Lights/lamps to light theatre

Clamps/heavy clips to fasten sheet to boards.

One-hole punch

Scissors

  1. Make 2-3 cut-outs (to be used as tracers) of each:
    egg, alevin, fry, adult salmon.
  2. Have kids trace characters onto construction paper
  3. Cut out characters
  4. Tape skewers onto fish (point up/covered with
    tape)
  5. Punch hole for eye.
  6. Ask for volunteers for each character
  7. Get egg, alevin, fry, and adult into theatre
  8. Teacher reads play while rest of class sits as
    audience. Make sure everyone gets a turn.
