Project Summary

The Fraser Salmon and Watersheds Program helped fund the restoration of chinook spawning habitat in the Hope Slough in Chilliwack and the restoration of salmon spawning habitat and upgrading the dilapidated boardwalk with an interpretive viewing trail at Kawkawa Creek in Hope.

Hope River provides excellent rearing and overwintering habitat for juvenille salmon and other fish and wildlife. However, there are very few areas for adult salmon to spawn. The purpose of this project was to provide more spawning habitat for chinook salmon in particular, but also for coho and chum salmon.  The group worked to create a spawning riffle for salmon, to provide a viewing area with an interpretive sign, and to restore the stream bank with native plants.
