Location: Vancouver Island, Campbell River Project Summary Tyee Club of BC Works to Increase Survival Rates of Chinook in the Campbell River In the spring of 2005, the Tyee Club of British Columbia initiated a project to rear Chinook smolts in saltwater net pens in order to increase survival and adult returns to the Campbell River. In 2004, the Tyee Club of BC placed 400 metric tonnes of spawning gravel in areas used historically by returning salmon on the Quinsam River. The Tyee Club of British Columbia began in 1925 as a group of anglers who returned to Campbell River each year in pursuit of the elusive Chinook salmon. Today, the Club has grown to include conservation, protection, and enhancement of the Campbell River’s Chinook salmon run. |
