Project Summary
SUMMARY
Replacement of Culvert on Dragon Creek, a tributary, to the Quesnel River to restore access to Dragon Creek which will improve conditions for Upper Fraser Interior Coho and Chinook Salmon.
DESCRIPTION
Dragon Creek is a tributary of the Quesnel River. There are 5 identified fish barriers on the system. The first culvert at the confluence with the Quesnel River, is a very long and perched much of the year, only being contiguous when back watered during freshet. When accessible, juvenile Chinook and Coho utilize the accessible portions of the system, including an extensive marsh area, for rearing. It is proposed to abandon the existing structure and relocate its replacement. The replacement is planned to be a concrete box culvert with built in baffling. The culvert will be shortened from the original 100meters to 35 meters with the approximately 100m of combined stream channel daylighting and lengthening.
Several Partners will be involved, including but not limited to D.F.O., M.O.E., Ministry of Transportation, Lhatko Dene Nation, City of Quesnel, Cariboo Regional District, Pulp Mills, local business and local youth.
