Project Summary

The project goals are: (1) to present the Strategy to First Nations, government agencies and community groups with a concise and targeted approach tailored to their particular area of interest or jurisdiction; (2) to provide resources to assist these groups to review the Strategy and to identify the components each can implement; (3) to obtain endorsements or recognition of the Strategy and to identify specific implementation commitments; (4) to identify any amendments to the Strategy that would assist with implementation success; (5) to work with other watershed groups and agencies to promote similar planning initiatives within their watersheds.

Many of the recommendations to help improve the sustainability of the Chilliwack River Watershed arising from CRWS are top-down, regulatory recommendations aimed at decision-making agencies.  In order to help implement these recommendations, we are proposing to utilize the expertise provided by a professional consultant to work with relevant agencies and First Nations.  The consultant will sort the issues and recommendations from the CRWS background reports that apply for specific agencies.  They will then present this information, as well as background information on the CRWS process and purpose, to senior staff and executives.  This presentation and sharing of information will assist in helping the agencies to understand CRWS, how they can use the information available, how they can help implement the actions that pertain to their agency, and how they can best utilize the findings from CRWS to assist them with their own projects or initiatives that are seeking to achieve the same results.
