Fish fertilizer

Everyone knows that fish fertilizer is the best stuff going.

Having grown up on one island or another along our beautiful BC coastline - I never really had to spend much time thinking about how important salmon are to this place and people!

When I did start really thinking about it, I realized that the wealth of life - lush temperate rainforests and the abundance that depends upon it - all come back to the salmon. Particularly that most undervalued of creatures - the pink salmon.

I am grateful to the salmon in a way that cannot be expressed in words. Even the salmon image tatooed into my flesh and engraved on my wedding band cannot begin to express how deeply I feel connected to this place - connected by an umbilicus of flashing silver, blue, and green.

These fish have fertilized me and my family! I only hope that I am worthy of their energy and can pay them back!
