Spawning Salmon that filled his gills

By Dan

Recently I caught a nice 20lb chinook on the Rogue River in Oregon, USA. When I got it home, I proceeded to clean it and noticed it had a stomach and in it were salmon flies and perry winckles. What the heck is going on with that? I have never seen or heard of spawning salmon eating during spawning!? Just thought I’d pass this on. I really caused me to reread the spawning salmon material to see if I missed something. From what I am reading this is not supposed to happen. Any one else run accross any feeding salmon during spawning? Sorry no pictures with this. I didn’t even think of it until someone asked me if I had pictures. Needless to say I don’t think they quite believed the whole story. This is not just another fish story. I would really like to know if anyone has heard or seen this freakish frenzie with salmon before?
